Objectives
We aim to contribute to the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of Chagas disease through a multidimensional approach, considering prevention and control strategies for other forms of transmission, with a focus on strengthening Primary Health Care, Universal Health Coverage, and access to quality services.
Pillars

01
Strengthen the integration of health systems and services at all levels to improve the prevention, timely diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of Chagas disease, with an emphasis on women of childbearing age, pregnant individuals, and newborns.
02
Expand access to diagnosis and treatment for Chagas disease, considering the follow-up of the pregnant individual-baby dyad and individuals with chronic infection, within the framework of the ETMI Plus strategy.
03
Reinforce epidemiological and entomological surveillance mechanisms to prevent the transmission of Chagas disease.
04
Improve information systems to facilitate data circulation among health teams and the community, incorporating differential care approaches that are culturally relevant and non-discriminatory.
05
Promote the participation of civil society and community stakeholders in the prevention, care, and support of individuals affected by Chagas.
Principles
Implementation in Territories
In a first phase, the territorial interventions implemented as a pilot will reach an estimated total population of 5,534,653 people, of whom 1,256,700 are women of childbearing age and 87,800 are newborns per year.
These populations correspond to the following geographical areas: the provinces of Chaco, Santiago del Estero, and Salta (Argentina); the departments of Manaus, Barcelos, and Carauari (Brazil); Santander, Tolima, and Cundinamarca (Colombia); Jalapa and Chiquimula (Guatemala); and the Municipality of Puerto Casado in Alto Paraguay (Paraguay).
Challenge
Provide easy and early access to diagnosis for all individuals exposed to Chagas disease transmission, especially women of childbearing age, women seeking preconception consultations, pregnant individuals, their newborns, and their other children.
